Speaking Beyond the Vitrine

Palawa people of Tasmania live with the constant lies of extinction and that the evidence of their culture can only be observed as remnants within the vitrines of museums. This work combines natural materials gathered from country to contrast with the aggressors’ manufactured materials that have been used to whiten, to scrub clean and to cover. Some of the forms and images hold stories while others become acts of resistance to assert identity and claim palawa sovereignty.
